Redfern has been an active part of the Atlin and regional community since the early 1980s. During that time, the Company adopted a policy of sourcing resources, supplies and personnel from the community as much as possible in order to provide positive economic support. This informal process has continued to the present day and the company expects to continue to engage cooperatively with the community as the project develops towards operations.
We have begun the process to amend the existing Environmental Assessment approval which would allow access to the project by use of the barges. Redfern has begun community consultation in both Juneau, Alaska and Atlin, BC. To date, the Company has met with several parties with interests in the project and the barging access and is further committed to working closely with the local communities to ensure that the project becomes a welcomed part of the local economy and environment.
With the potential change in the project access mode, the Company has an improved relationship with the Taku River Tlingit First Nation (TRTFN) who, in February 2007, signed an initial letter agreement with the Company covering the barge amendment Environmental Assessment process. The agreement also contemplates entering into discussions for an Impact and Benefits Agreement defining the opportunities for TRTFN participation in project benefits and environmental mitigation.
